I always recommend a tour for the first time that you go someplace. Especially a woman traveling alone. There are tons of tours that go through Cambodia. I have been to Cambodia and did a lot of sight-seeing by myself. As a female, I would suggest being cautious at nightime because that is when a lot of the prositution and potential theft would occur. Generally Cambodians are very sweet and innocent. They do not appear harmful or potential threats, but there is a lot of begging and you have to pay attention to your belongings at all times!

I spent two months in Phnom pehn last summer, as a 17 year old female, and i felt as safe as i would in Glasgow or london. seriously! the men are very respectfull towards women. Usual rules apply, be aware,dont venture out at night alone (the tourist strips, Lakeside and Riverside are ok) Try and avoid having your bag on display when your on a tuk tuk or moto, especially at night, as a few of my friends had their bags snatched.
