I have noticed that Emirates Airlines offers stopovers in their hub, Dubai, and I am planning to spend a few days hanging out in the United Arab Emirates. I have never been to the Middle East and am wondering what to expect?
Dubai is not exactly like the rest of the Middle East. It is a relatively new city that has been built up on in the past couple of decades. Basically, the sheikh that is running Dubai is very smart and creative businessman. He has turned Dubai into the Economic center for the Middle East. People from all over the Middle East and South Asia travel to Dubai to work and send money back home to their families. With this in mind, there has grown a unique focus on international business and international business travelers. You can find some of the most elite hotels, land developements, concerts and shopping there. Enjoy the chance to shop, walk on the beach, go on safari in the desert, talk to people from all over the world and get a glimpse into culture of United Arab Emirates. One important thing that I would want to point out is that the UAE is a bit on the conservative side with clothing. They are open to foreigners being there. But, you might want to double check with the consulate about what they recommend for women traveling there.
