I am going to Montreal for spring break in March. Any suggestions on where to go, what to wear, how much money to bring, where to stay? Does anyone recommend hostels? It seems fairly cheap but i dont know how safe it would be. I’m staying there for a week. I’m interested in doing some landmarks and day activities and especially night life!!
Montreal is going to be a blast!
First of all, make sure you dress appropriately. Bring lots of layers and bundle up, because it will probably still be very cold in March.
There are a lot of cool places to stay in Montreal. Have you stayed in a hostel before? Hostels are safe places, the most people have to worry about it petty theft— however if you keep everything of value in your locker and keep things like your phone and passport on you, you should be fine. I have a hostel i can recommend that has male / female dorm rooms separate from each other if that makes you feel more comfortable.
Are you going with a group of friends or solo? hostels are also a great way to meet other travellers your own age and get their perspective on a city, and hear about cool spots that they found.
We do have hotels as well, so decide whatever you like and we can help you book it.
Some things you don’t want to miss out on:
1) get crepes in Old Montreal (if you are unsure of the location just ask some friendly locals… if you don’t mind walking 10-15 minutes you can take metro to Champs-de-Mars or Place-d’Armes)
There is a place near the corner of Rue St. Jean Baptiste and St. Paul Est. BEST crepe suzettes!
2) Take the bus up to the top of Mont Royal Parc at dusk. wrap yourself up because it will be freezing this time of year. The view of the city lights from the top is unreal.
3) Rue St. Catherine, Rue St. Denis and Rue Crescent are hip streets with cool shops bars and restaurants. just make sure if you are into clubs that you bring clothes and shoes to wear out. Typically trainers (sneakers) are not acceptable, and sometimes women aren’t allowed in wearing pants (this may have changed — but i was turned away from a club whan i was 18 because i did not have a skirt on)
there are a lot of other cool places to check out. If you would like help bo=oking a room for you or your friends, send me an email!
cheers!

Rue St. Laurent is a great street as well for partying- especially around Prince Arthur. It’s also slightly less touristy than Crescent and an older crowd generally speaking.
My favorite view of the city is on top of the Olympic Tower at the Stade Olympic. You can see the mountain from there, instead of being on the mountain. But I agree with Farah- Mont Royal Parc as dusk is amazing!
When I was a student there, L’Academie on St. Denis was the favorite restaurant. The food was high quality, but also inexpensive because all the chefs were still students (about to graduate).
Ave Mont Royal has got some great shopping, and is a distinctly more “French” area than downtown. Everyone will still speak English though, but it is a more authentic experience.
And St. Joseph’s Oratory is incredible, but be prepared to walk. There are something like 10 stories of stairs to walk up just to get the the church.
